Is using clips from video game trailers illegal?

I was just wondering if it was legal, or if I would be violations of the DMCA, to use clips from game trailers to use in a video that would appear as the an introduction / promotional video to a site related toward gaming.

If not, what guidelines are there?

    1. Absolutely 100% illegal unless you have permission in writing from the copyrght owner, or the clip has been released with a carte blanche permission to be shown on other sites and disseminated freely.

However if it’s a site you own, all you need to do is email the gaming company and ask for permission and give them the URL of both your site and the URL of the page where it will be displayed. In almost all cases you’ll get a positive response from the gaming company as it’s in their interest to have the clip shown as widely as possible.

    2. If it is a clip from a video game, yes probably. If it is a trailer that has been released to the public, absolutly not illegal. You can use that trailer…

    3. I think illegal only if you plan on using it for financial gain, also i think modifying the trailer is against its copyright (its very rare but the trailer may not be copyrighted and then it would be ok to use, and ok to modify)
Basically, you should see what the copyright t&c are of the trailer you want to use
